Serpentine and The FLAG Art Foundation Establish £1 Million Contemporary Art Prize
Serpentine and The FLAG Art Foundation have announced the selection committee for the Serpentine x FLAG Art Foundation Prize, comprising Michelle Kuo, Venus Lau, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Jon Rider and Rirkrit Tiravanija. The prize will distribute a total of £1 million to five recipients at £200,000 biennially, establishing it as the UK’s largest contemporary art prize given to a single artist. Eligible artists must have exhibited professionally in major global institutions for less than 10 years and maintain active international exhibition records.
The Signal
The long-term partnership will provide recipients with resources to develop new work, stage exhibitions and pursue further directions in their practice. The first recipient will be selected in 2026, with the inaugural exhibition opening at Serpentine in London in Autumn 2027 before travelling to FLAG in New York in Spring 2028, each accompanied by a catalogue and live programme.
