Stedelijk Museum to Recruit New Curator for Buro Stedelijk as Rita Ouédraogo Concludes Term
Buro Stedelijk was established in 2022 by the Stedelijk Museum in collaboration with the Rijksakademie and De Ateliers. Founding curators Azu Nwagbogu and Rita Ouédraogo developed its framework from December 2022, with Ouédraogo leading the platform from December 2023. The three-year curatorship concludes this year, prompting the independent advisory board to begin recruitment for a new curator this Summer, with the appointment effective from 2026. The program has presented work by artists including Julianknxx, Miles Greenberg, Ola Hassanain, Kenneth Aidoo, Nazif Lopulissa and others through exhibitions, the To Be Determined series, the Feminist Sci-Fi Reading Group and off-site projects such as the annual Keti Koti Westerpark collaboration.

The fixed three-year term positions Buro Stedelijk as a deliberate laboratory for emerging curatorial talent as well as artists, ensuring regular renewal of perspectives between the studio, art schools, galleries and museum. The upcoming transition allows the incoming curator to build on nearly 200 collaborators and the platform’s established role in Amsterdam’s contemporary scene while maintaining independence through the advisory board structure.
