Tate Britain to Stage Major Turner and Constable Exhibition Marking 250th Anniversary of Artists' Births
Tate Britain presents the first major exhibition to explore the intertwined lives and legacies of JMW Turner and John Constable. The show runs November 27, 2025 to April 12, 2026 and features over 190 paintings and works on paper, including Turner’s The Burning of the Houses of Lords and Commons from the Cleveland Museum of Art and Constable’s The White Horse from the Frick Collection. It traces their parallel careers, contrasting early lives, and the critical rivalry that pushed both artists toward original visions in landscape painting.
The Signal
The exhibition positions the two artists as central to elevating landscape as a genre of prime importance, providing collectors and curators with direct comparison of their methods and market legacies. Contemporary artists Frank Bowling, Bridget Riley, George Shaw and Emma Stibbon contribute reflections on their influence, indicating continued institutional and scholarly interest in British Romantic landscape works. Partnership support from LVMH and the Huo Family Foundation underscores sustained private-sector commitment to historic British art programming at Tate Britain.
