Tate Modern to Present 'Light & Magic', First Major Global Survey of Pictorialist Photography

Tate Modern will open "Light & Magic: The Birth of Art Photography" on October 14, 2026, marking the first major exhibition to explore Pictorialism as a global photographic movement. The show, on view through February 21, 2027, brings together 200 vintage prints by more than 80 artists from Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Australia, tracing the movement from the 1880s through the 1960s. Four thematic sections examine Pictorialism's emergence as a fine art, its printmaking techniques, the role of international camera clubs, and its relationship with Modernism.
