Getty Announces 2026–2027 Cohort of Scholars for Research and Conservation Programs
The Getty Research Institute, Getty Conservation Institute, Getty Foundation, and Getty Museum have named the 2026–2027 cohort of Getty Scholars. Since 1985 the program has hosted international researchers at the Getty Center and Getty Villa for advanced work on art and its histories. Research Institute scholars will focus on provenance, collecting history, the art market, and ownership of cultural objects. Villa scholars will examine Religious Experience in Antiquity, while Conservation Institute grantees address heritage conservation and invited Museum Scholars pursue projects aligned with curatorial and education departments.

The cohort underscores Getty’s strategy to centralize provenance studies at a moment when museums worldwide confront restitution claims and ethical stewardship questions. Projects range from African arts during World War II and Korean collecting networks to Black feminist archiving and colonial provenance in Haiti and Paris, offering collectors and curators new frameworks for assessing object histories and institutional responsibilities.
