The Facts
The Museum of Modern Art has announced dates for its 2027 film festival lineup. The 23rd edition of To Save and Project, presenting newly preserved and restored films from around the world, will run from January 7 to 31, 2027. Doc Fortnight, now in its 26th year, will highlight innovative nonfiction films from February 25 to March 11, 2027. The 56th edition of New Directors/New Films, co-presented by MoMA and Film at Lincoln Center, will showcase work by emerging directors from April 7 to 18, 2027. Silent Movie Week, returning for its fifth year, will bring seven silent-film restorations from July 28 to August 3, 2027, and the annual series The Contenders will run from October 28 to December 16, 2027.
The Signal
The lineup signals MoMA's continued commitment to film preservation and emerging cinema, with five distinct programs spanning the year. For collectors and curators, the festival slate underscores the museum's role as a key institutional platform for both archival restorations and new voices, potentially influencing market interest in restored classics and debut works. The extended run of The Contenders through December also positions MoMA as a year-round destination for cinephiles, reinforcing its cultural programming beyond visual art exhibitions.
