Nam June Paik Art Center to Host First Solo Exhibition of Joan Jonas in South Korea
Nam June Paik Art Center presented the 8th Nam June Paik Prize Exhibition, Joan Jonas: The More-than-Human World, from November 20, 2025 to March 29, 2026. The show marked the first solo exhibition of Joan Jonas in Korea and traced her career from early works such as Wind (1968) to the recent installation Empty Rooms (2025). Structured in three thematic sections, the exhibition highlighted her pioneering role in performance and video art from the 1960s and 1970s in New York, her later ecological narratives, and recurring motifs in her most recent pieces.
The Signal
The presentation at a major Korean institution underscores Jonas's global influence on the hybridization of contemporary art forms and signals growing institutional interest in artists whose practices bridge performance, video, and ecological themes. For collectors and curators, the exhibition offers context for the sustained relevance of works spanning more than five decades and positions Jonas within ongoing discussions of non-anthropocentric narratives in art.
