Nnena Kalu Wins 2025 Turner Prize at Bradford Ceremony, Tate Announces
Nnena Kalu has been awarded the Turner Prize 2025 and its £25,000 prize. The announcement took place at a ceremony at Bradford Grammar School presented by Steven Frayne in Bradford, this year’s UK City of Culture, and broadcast live on BBC News. The jury selected Kalu from nominees Rene Matić, Mohammed Sami and Zadie Xa for her hanging sculptures made from wrapped materials and large-scale drawings with vigorous lines. The Turner Prize 2025 exhibition at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery has attracted 34,000 visitors to date and runs until 22 February 2026.
The Signal
Kalu’s win underscores the prize’s role in elevating distinct practices by learning-disabled artists supported through organisations such as ActionSpace. The decision to stage the award and exhibition at a non-Tate venue in Bradford continues the established strategy of widening access to contemporary British art beyond London. The 2026 edition at MIMA in Middlesborough will extend that geographic rotation for collectors and curators tracking institutional reach.
