Tate Britain will stage the first exhibition to explore the art, photography and fashion of the 1990s from October 8, 2026 to February 14, 2027. The show features nearly 70 artists, photographers and designers including the Young British Artists, Alexander McQueen, Tracey Emin, Chris Ofili and Juergen Teller, and brings together over 100 photographs, paintings, sculptures and garments. Curated by Edward Enninful OBE with Jessica Vaughan, Helen Little, Dominique Heyse-Moore, Alex Farquharson and Celeste McEvoy, the exhibition draws on Enninful’s experience of the decade to re-evaluate Britain’s cultural identity.

The Signal

The presentation positions the 1990s as a pivotal moment when a resourceful generation reshaped British art and fashion after the economic uncertainty of the 1980s, highlighting DIY attitudes, club culture, Black British designers and conceptual movements. For collectors and curators it offers a benchmark for reassessing market interest in YBA-era works and 1990s fashion archives, while underscoring institutional focus on diversity and the intersection of art and design at a time when such crossovers continue to influence contemporary programming.
