Good morning. The Reina Sofía opens an eighty-work Marlene Dumas survey — a fitting anchor for a week where Paris and London dominate the institutional calendar.

The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid has opened "Marlene Dumas: Durmiendo con el enemigo / Sleeping with the Enemy," a thematic survey of around eighty works spanning the 1970s to the present. The exhibition includes paintings, drawings, and collages, organized around dualities such as eroticism and death, pain and pleasure, and intimacy and distance, with portraiture as a central genre. After its run in Madrid, the show will travel to Bourse de Commerce — Pinault Collection in Paris and the Sammlung Moderne Kunst at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich.

The Dumas survey leads because it gives a painter of psychological unease full institutional validation, a rare non-commercial assessment of her five-decade arc.

Signal of the Day

Paris is the week's true gravity: 20 of 75 stories, from the Louvre's Zurbarán to the Bourse de Commerce's photography bicentennial, outpaces every other city.

The Week in Brief
The Pattern

Across 75 stories this week, exhibitions dominate at 43, but auctions total just four and €270K — the market is quiet. Paris leads with 20 stories, London 15; institutions, not sales, set the pace.

Looking Ahead

Tomorrow brings Gagosian's Michael Craig-Martin LED on Oxford Street; Wednesday pairs the Louvre's Zurbarán retrospective with the Bourse de Commerce's photography bicentennial.
