Getty Museum Highlights Odyssey Characters from Collection Ahead of Nolan Film Opening July 17

On July 15, 2026, the J. Paul Getty Museum announced a selection of artworks from its collection depicting characters from Homer's "The Odyssey," coordinated with the July 17 release of Christopher Nolan's film "The Odyssey." The museum's offerings include a Roman silver cup featuring Odysseus, a bronze statuette of Minerva (Athena), Jacques-Louis David's painting "The Farewell of Telemachus and Eucharis," and Joseph Wright of Derby's "Penelope Unraveling Her Web," among others. Visitors can follow a self-guided tour of seven galleries at the Getty Villa to compare ancient depictions with the film's star-studded cast, including Matt Damon as Odysseus, Zendaya as Athena, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, and Bill Irwin as Polyphemus.
