Good morning. Seven stories on the wire — the one to sit with is the passing of Mary Heilmann, confirmed by Hauser & Wirth.

THE LEAD

Ai Weiwei Solo Exhibition at Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Sydney, Sept 2026–April 2027

via Galleria Continua

The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) will present a solo exhibition of artist Ai Weiwei as part of the Neil Balnaves Tallawoladah Lawn Commission. The exhibition runs from September 25, 2026, through April 2027, on Tallawoladah Lawn at Circular Quay, Sydney. This marks Ai Weiwei's latest major public art project in Australia, following his previous engagements with the institution.

Mary Heilmann's passing at 86 closes a seven-decade practice that blurred the line between West Coast funk and East Coast minimalism.

Signal of the Day

Today's Rotthier African and Oceanic art sale at Lempertz in Paris will gauge tribal market strength against contemporary benchmarks.

The Week in Brief
The Pattern

Exhibition openings dominate the week with 37 of 67 stories, concentrated in Paris (Fondation LV, Louvre) and New York. Auction activity is sparse at €1.8M aggregate, but the Rotthier tribal art sale today and Aguttes' sacred garment record signal niche strength.

Looking Ahead

Tomorrow, the Gustave Moreau Museum opens its bicentenary carte blanche to Ali Banisadr; later this week, the Stedelijk announces a major Yayoi Kusama exhibition on Friday.
