Good morning. Paris leads the wire again, but the story to watch is Christie's first Asia exhibition of South Asian modernism, opening in Hong Kong next month.

THE LEAD

Christie's First Asia Exhibition of Modern South Asian Art, Featuring Dabriwala Collection, Opens in Hong Kong

via Christie's

On October 6, 2026, Christie's announced its first exhibition in Asia dedicated to modern South Asian art, 'Masterpieces of Modern South Asian Art: Highlights from the Dabriwala Collection'. Free and open to the public from November 18 to November 29 at The Henderson in Hong Kong, the show brings together over twenty works by leading artists including Cheong Soo Pieng, Hendra Gunawan, Affandi, Arpita Singh, and Salman Toor. The exhibition is timed to coincide with the 'India by the Bay' festival and reflects the collecting vision of Surbhit Dabriwala and his family, who have built the collection over four decades. It marks one of the first public displays of the Dabriwala Collection.

Christie's is betting Hong Kong collectors will embrace modern South Asian art, testing a market that has traditionally centered on London and New York.

Signal of the Day

Aguttes' animation sale marks a serious move into pop culture, but the Zidane jersey estimate feels cautious for a World Cup final relic.

The Week in Brief
The Pattern

Exhibitions dominate the week with 29 openings versus 15 auctions, and Paris remains the epicenter with 17 stories. The mix skews institutional, but Aguttes' pop culture and sports lots add a commercial counterpoint.

Looking Ahead

Tomorrow, Pace and Lisson open several exhibitions, including Adam Pendleton at the Stedelijk and Joyce Pensato in Hamburg, while next week's anchor is the Fondation Beyeler's Ruth Asawa retrospective.
