Good morning. A quiet Monday in London—Luke Jerram's seven-metre 'Gaia' floats above the Royal Festival Hall stage.

THE LEAD

Luke Jerram's Giant Earth Sculpture 'Gaia' Installed at London's Royal Festival Hall

via Southbank Centre

Luke Jerram's seven-metre-diameter floating Earth sculpture, Gaia, has been installed at the Royal Festival Hall in London, suspended above the stage and allowing visitors to walk beneath it. The touring artwork uses high-resolution NASA imagery to create a three-dimensional view of the planet, accompanied by a surround-sound composition by BAFTA-winning composer Dan Jones. The installation has been presented in more than 30 countries and is now on view at the Southbank Centre for the first time. The piece was created in partnership with the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), Bluedot, and the UK Association for Science and Discovery Centres.

Gaia's installation at the Southbank Centre continues the trend of monumental public art in London, drawing crowds to a free, walk-through experience.

The Pattern

Looking Ahead

Tomorrow: Tracey Emin's first solo Paris show opens at White Cube, and Aguttes launches its animation art auction in Paris.
