THE LEAD

Artcurial to Host First All-Ceramics Auction on October 23, 2026

via Artcurial

Artcurial will hold its first auction dedicated entirely to ceramics on October 23, 2026, in Paris. Curated by Jean-Marc Dimanche, co-founder of Ceramic Brussels, the sale features works by contemporary and historical artists including Carolein Smit, Kim Simonsson, Betty Woodman, Jacques Blin, and Georges Jouve. Notable lots include a blue glazed vase by Blin (est. €3,000–4,000), a bottle vase by Jouve (est. €5,000–7,000), and a stoneware vessel by Japanese artist Shōzō Michikawa (est. €500–800). A preview exhibition runs from October 17 to 23, 2026.

Artcurial's all-ceramics auction on October 23 tests whether medium-specific sales can generate heat beyond design and decorative arts—watch the estimate-to-hammer ratio closely.

Signal of the Day

Nathaniel Mary Quinn's Stones Trinity on the Rolling Stones' 'Foreign Tongues' is the week's strangest and most audible cultural signal—galleries are losing the battle for attention to album covers.

The Week in Brief
The Pattern

Exhibition announcements dominate the news flow—28 of 52 stories—but Zurich's Kunsthaus accounts for ten of them, skewing the geographic picture. Auctions are quiet: just four events, no major house above $10M hammer. The market is in summer observation mode.

Looking Ahead

Nathaniel Mary Quinn's Rolling Stones collaboration drops today; the Anish Kapoor conversation with Darian Leader at Southbank Centre follows tomorrow. Tate's Yvonne Rainer performances on July 10 are the week's live-event anchor.

Why it matters
Tony Oursler's early video and media works, including 'Private' (1994–1997), are still under-collected relative to his installation-scale pieces—Tokyo Node's deep archival focus may surface new private-treaty opportunities.

Why it matters
Kunsthaus Zürich's youth-oriented art.in program signals a shift: major Swiss museums are now competing for cultural-engagement funding, not just acquisition budgets, which may reshape philanthropic priorities.

Parrish Art Museum to Present First Tony Bechara Survey, Opening June 27

The Parrish Art Museum will present "Tony Bechara: An Artist of Many Worlds" from June 27 to November 1, 2026, the first comprehensive survey of the Puerto Rican artist (1942–2025). Featuring over…

Why it matters
Tony Bechara's first survey arrives posthumously at Parrish—with 50+ works across six decades, the show will likely reprice his market from primary to secondary, especially among Latin American collectors.
