THE LEAD

Mori Art Museum to Stage Major Mariko Mori Retrospective 'All That Shines'

via Mori Art Museum

The Mori Art Museum in Tokyo will present 'Mariko Mori: All That Shines', Japan's first major retrospective of the artist since 2002. Organized in collaboration with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, the exhibition opens October 31, 2026 and runs through March 28, 2027. It features approximately forty works spanning more than three decades, including performance-based photography, video, drawing, sculpture, and large-scale interactive installations such as 'Wave UFO' (1999–2002), the first artwork to use brainwave bio-feedback. The retrospective co-curated by Alexandra Munroe, Senior Curator at Large, Global Arts at the Guggenheim, and Kataoka Mami, Director of Mori Art Museum, traces Mori's evolution from her 'Cyborg' series of the 1990s to later metaphysical inquiries informed by Buddhist philosophy, astrophysics, and concepts of planetary interconnectedness.
